What this is

Tampa Rat Control is a rat and rodent service for Tampa and the surrounding Hillsborough County areas. You call the number, describe what you are hearing and where, and an experienced local exterminator handles the work: inspection, trapping, sealing, and attic cleanup.

The line is open day or night, which is deliberate rather than a slogan. Rat calls do not happen at convenient hours. They happen at 11pm when something starts running across the ceiling, and at 2am when it wakes somebody up again.

Why rats only

Rat work rewards specialization more than most pest problems, because so much of it is diagnostic rather than chemical. Naming the species correctly, finding the runway, spotting the seam on a roofline that a general technician walks past: that is the difference between a job that finishes and a job that comes back.

A quarterly general pest route is built around a schedule. It is genuinely good at what it does, and for ants, roaches, and the ordinary Florida background it is the right product. It is not built for an attic full of roof rats, because that problem does not run on a schedule and it does not respond to a perimeter spray.

What we know about this city

Rat control here is not the same job as rat control in a northern city, and the differences are concrete.

The species mix is lopsided. Hillsborough County is roof rat country, and the roof rat is a climber, so the inspection starts on the roof rather than the foundation. The housing stock concentrates the failure points: concrete block on slab pushes everything up to the roofline, barrel tile leaves an open batten space behind the first course, and 1920s bungalows in Seminole Heights and Hyde Park have open chases running from pier to attic.

The climate removes the reset. Nothing freezes here, so breeding runs year-round and a small problem does not stay small. And the food supply is in the yard: citrus, loquat, mango, and avocado will hold a roof rat population with no help at all from your kitchen.

Those four facts shape every job in this city, and a company that does not lead with them is working from a template written somewhere else.

How to get the most out of the call

Three details do most of the diagnostic work before anyone arrives: what you are hearing, where in the house, and what time of night. Noise that starts about an hour after sunset and travels in a line across the ceiling is a roof rat. Daytime scrabbling near the eaves is more likely a squirrel. Low noise near a garage or a shed points to a Norway rat and a completely different plan.

If you have already tried traps, say so and say where you put them. That usually explains why they caught nothing, and it saves repeating the same mistake with more equipment.
